Student found guilty in Houston Taliban case

Syed Maaz Shah, a Dallas student who was linked to a Houston-based Taliban conspiracy, was found guilty this afternoon on two weapons violations.

A 12-member jury found that Shah, 19, unlawfully possessed a firearm while in the country on a student visa. He was charged in connection with a terrorist plot to aid the Taliban.

The Pakistan-born student attending the University of Texas at Dallas on scholarship was not allowed to have a firearm because his visa had expired.

His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 14.
