Guyana: Kadir’s Party Members Condemn Terrorism
June 5, 2007
Hardbeatnews, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Tues. June 5, 2007: Officials representing the political party of former Guyana Member of Parliament, Abdul Kadir, have slammed all acts of terror and insisted the party has never known the terror accused as an extremist.
The People’s National Congress Reform, in which Kadir served as a MP until last year, yesterday insisted that the accused, one of three others nabbed in what US federal authorities call a foiled terror plot that targeted the J.F.K. Airport in New York, was known to them as only a “Muslim (and) a well respected member of the Linden community.”
They also insisted that he “… has never in our party or in Guyana, displayed a proclivity for illegality or any form of extremism.”
But PNCR officials also insisted “that terrorist acts in whatever guise, perpetuated by persons in pursuit of whatever cause is heinous and unacceptable.” Party officials also made reference indirectly to Luis Padilla, who is accused of the bombing of Air Cubana Flight 455 on October 6, 1976.
Eleven Guyanese were among those of two other states who were killed. And the main opposition Guyana party urged that those who perpetrate acts of terrorism should not be sheltered or protected. – Hardbeatnews.com
