Arouca residents shocked at arrest

CANEFARM, Arouca residents still cannot believe that, “the old man with the shop” could have been part of an alleged terror plot targeting the United States.

Some expressed their fears openly stating, “Lord. Is now ah not getting a visa,” but none of them could say if there was any recent activity hinting that a massive terror plot was being hatched by one of their own.

The Express re-visited the busy community yesterday morning starting first with a small thriving parlour owned by a close relative of Kareem Ibrahim.

Ibrahim was among the three out of four terror suspects nabbed by US and Trinidad authorities on Friday.

The man (in his early 40s) still insisted yesterday though that he had nothing to say about Ibrahim. He also said that he didn’t know where his wife was. The man’s wife is Ibrahim’s granddaughter.

Other residents were a bit more forthcoming.

One young man who lives very close to Ibrahim’s home said that, “He is a cool man. He normal with everybody. I shock about it. I feel is some kinda frame thing. People out here just like to frame people.”

The Express was also told by (another resident) that Ibrahim used to pray at a mosque located along the Eastern Main Road, Arouca.

There was a split among the congregation and up to the time he was held he would pray at the Masjid-Al-Falah Mosque in Arima.
