Doctor on terror charges

July 21, 2007

A former Shropshire doctor has been charged over the suspected failed bomb attacks in London and at Glasgow Airport.

Mohammed Asha, has been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions and will appear before Westminster magistrates tomorrow.

Asha worked as a junior doctor at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital until August last year. It is believed he also worked at Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital during that time.

The 26-year-old, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, was arrested on the M6 on June 30 along with his wife Marwa Asha, 27, who has since been released without charge.

Four men have now been charged and two men also released without charge. One man is being questioned.

Last month, two cars containing petrol, gas cylinders and nails were discovered in London. A day later a burning car was driven into Glasgow Airport setting part of the building ablaze.
